General information for your newborn session. It’s best to get baby in before 10 days of age for a posed session. This ensures that they are nice and squishy for various poses. In home lifestyle should be done before your baby is one month old. In studio posed sessions generally last from 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I plan for naked and wrapped photos. I have a variety of wraps, hats and headbands to choose from. If you have anything sentimental that you would like to include in your session please bring it. I will work it in to the session. Please be prepared to feed your baby several times during the session even if it is not their scheduled feeding time. Babies with full bellies are much easier to settle when working through the poses. Newborn sessions are done in a private area so that breastfeeding moms are comfortable. Be prepared to relax. I’ve got this. 🙂 I’ve had many babies in my studio. I use methods from the Happiest Baby on the Block to soothe and calm your baby.
A note about baby safety. I prefer to photograph babies in more natural positions. I don’t hang babies from slings, put them in poses that could harm them or place them in props that are unsafe. Parent shots always have three points of contact for baby safety. Your hands are points 1 and 2 and your chest is point 3. Some poses are meant for sleepy babies and if your baby is awake, we will not attempt them. Your baby’s safety is my number one priority. Afraid that your baby won’t sleep? Don’t sweat it! There are many poses that all babies can do asleep or awake. You will get a beautiful variety of images of your baby even if they don’t sleep.
